A kind-hearted tradesman has hung up his toolbox to make superhero-inspired hospital costumes for Australia's sickest children after his daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Jason Sotiris, from Sydney's western suburbs, launched Supertees in 2018, five years after his eldest daughter, Angela, started battling Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare disorder that causes excess immune cells to grow inside the body. The 41-year-old father-of-three recalls feeling 'helpless and useless' when he was unable to change his firstborn's clothes without a nurse due to the tangle of tubes attached to her tiny body.
Driven by Angela's bravery, he went from silicon-sealing bathrooms to creating strategically designed garments that make life easier for sick children in hospital. The experience really challenged my perception of myself as a protector and a father,' Mr Sotiris told Daily Mail Australia. Made from cotton and printed with a non-toxic dye, 'Supertees' fasten with plastic press buttons that are safe to wear in MRI and PET scan machines.
They are open around the underarms to allow nurse's to check temperatures with a thermometer, without undressing the child or unhooking them from drips. Despite doctors giving her just a 20 percent chance of survival, Angela, who celebrated her ninth birthday in May, is now cancer-free and will hopefully have no need for her father's brilliant invention in the future. But other kids are not so lucky. RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next Fit and healthy student nurse, mahjong 19, misdiagnosed with a sinus...

'I see a lot of similarities between these kids and superheroes in the movies - they're brave and courageous and they fight because they simply don't have a choice,' he said.
